9165ff2517 fix(platform-browser): reuse server generated component styles (#48253)
Prior to this change component styles generated on the server where removed prior to the client side component being rendered and attached it's own styles. In some cases this caused flickering. To mitigate this `initialNavigation: enabledBlocking'` was introduced which allowed the remove of server styles to be defer to a latter stage when the application has finished initialization.

This commit changes the need for this, by not removing the server generated component styles and reuse them for client side rendering.

0e5f9ba6f4 fix(core): generate consistent component IDs (#48253)
Prior to this change the component IDs where generated based on a counter. This is problematic as there is no guarantee that a component will get the same ID that was assigned on the server when generated on the client side.

This is paramount to be able to re-use the component styles generated on the server.

5944f5d21e refactor(core): skip hydration annotation (#49345)
This adds the ngSkipHydration annotation, which allows users to
opt hydration boundaries out of hydration. This enables incremental

8e0a087674 refactor(core): hydration logic for <ng-container>s (#49303)
This commit incrementally builds on top of #49285 and adds the logic to hydrate <ng-container>s and their contents. This implementation supports simple <ng-container>s that don't have any Angular features (like *ngIf/*ngFor, etc) and are not content-projected.

The subsequent commits will extend the logic further to support more complex scenarios.

4ae4090d3c refactor(platform-server): Implement hydration state transfer machinery (#49271)
**Important note**: this is a first commit in a series of commits that will be needed
to support non-destructive hydration. Stay tuned for further updates!

This commit lays the foundation on top of which more hydration logic will be
added in follow up PRs. This PR includes:

* Initial serialization of hydration data
* Data transfer of hydration annotations from server side to client
* Accessing hydration info and populating internal data structures
* Initial APIs (currently private) that enable hydration (in a tree-shakable manner)
* Cleanup of annotations post hydration
* Initial test infrastructure and basic test cases

This commit does **not** expose any public APIs. They'll be exposed later, when
more hydration logic is implemented to a state when it can cover most common
use-cases.

9105c41f44 fix(platform-server): avoid duplicate TransferState info after renderApplication call (#49094)
This commit updates the `renderApplication` function to avoid duplicate serialization of the data from the `TransferState` class. 02d5e8d79d fix(platform-browser): remove styles from DOM of destroyed components (#48298)
Currently style of components using `encapsulation`, `None` or `Emulated` will not be removed from the DOM once the component get destroyed.

This change addresses this by keeping track of the number of times a component is rendered, when the component is destroyed the counter is decreased and once this reaches zero the style element is removed from the DOM.

Currently, this new behaviour is on opt-in bases, but it will be changed in the next major version.

To opt-in, set the `REMOVE_STYLES_ON_COMPONENT_DESTROY` DI token to `true`.

Example
```ts
@NgModule({
 declarations: [
   AppComponent,
 ],
 imports: [
   BrowserModule
 ],
 providers: [
   { provide: REMOVE_STYLES_ON_COMPONENT_DESTROY, useValue: true }
 ],
 bootstrap: [AppComponent]
})
2fc5b70fce fix(platform-server): insert transfer state script before other script tags (#48868)
Previously, the state `script` was always appended as the last item in the `body` tag. This can result in the state not being available when the Angular application is bootstrap.
A workaround for this was to delay the bootstrapping of the application until by using the `DOMContentLoaded` event listener.
```ts
const bootstrap = () => platformBrowserDynamic().bootstrapModule(AppModule);

document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', bootstrap);
```
With this change the above workaround is no longer necessary as the state `script` tag is now added prior of any other `script` which guarantees that the state is present prior of the Angular application is bootstrapped.
c9415e4d75 build: ensure bootstrap transitive runfiles are made available (#48521)
Since we generate a `.mjs` file as entry-point for jasmine tests,
a couple of issues prevented the transitive dependencies from
bootstrap targets to be brought in (causing resolution errors):
1. The `_files` (previously `_esm2015`) targets are no longer needed,
   and they also miss all the information on runfiles.
2. The aspect for computing linker mappings does not respect the
   `bootstrap` attribute from the `spec_entrypoint` so we manually
   add the extract ESM output targets (this rule works with the aspect
   and forwards linker mappings).
access to the JS files because `DefaultInfo` of a ts library
`.mjs` output- compatible with ESM.
790ee17e80 fix(platform-server): call onSerialize when state is empty (#47888)
Commit a0b2d36415 (diff-3975e0ee5aa3e06ecbcd76f5fa5134612f7fd2e6802ca7d370973bd410aab55cR25-R31) changed the serialization phase logic so
that when the state is empty the script tag is not added to the document. As a side effect, this caused the `toJson` not called which caused the `onSerialize` callbacks also not to be called.
These callbacks are used to provide the value for a key when `toJson` is called. Example: https://github.com/ngrx/platform/issues/101#issuecomment-351998548
7de1469be6 feat(core): introduce EnvironmentProviders wrapper type (#47669)
This commit introduces a new type `EnvironmentProviders` which can be used
in contexts where Angular accepted `Provider`s destined for
`EnvironmentInjector`s. This includes contexts such as `@NgModule.providers`
and `Route.providers`.
The new type is useful for preventing such providers from accidentally
ending up in `@Component.providers`. It can be used as the return type of
provider functions (such as `provideRouter`) to enforce this safety.
Because `Provider` allows `any[]` nested arrays, the compile-time safety
provided by `EnvironmentProviders` is easily circumvented. However, the
runtime shape of `EnvironmentProviders` is not compatible with component
injectors and will result in a runtime error if it leaks through (NG0207).
A new function `makeEnvironmentProviders` is used to construct this new type
from an array of providers.
The existing `importProvidersFrom` operation previously returned a very
similar type `ImportedNgModuleProviders` which had the same goal. This
machinery is switched over to use the new `EnvironmentProviders` interface
instead (in fact, `ImportedNgModuleProviders` is now just an alias to
`EnvironmentProviders`).
a0b2d36415 refactor(platform-server): make TransferState standalone-friendly (#46879)
This commit updates the `TransferState` to make it `providedIn: 'root'`. This makes the entire `BrowserTransferStateModule` module unnecessary, so it got deprecated as well.
The `ServerTransferStateModule` is still retained, but the `renderApplication` function now also includes the necessary tokens to serialize the `TransferState` automatically, so when using the `renderApplication` function, there is no need to include `ServerTransferStateModule` as well.
d322052db3 refactor(core): guard against importProvidersFrom in components (#45838)
`importProvidersFrom` provides a bridge from the world of NgModule-based DI
configuration to the new, "standalone" world of direct providers and
environment injectors. Early user feedback suggested some confusion around
where this function was supposed to be used, particularly around importing
NgModule-based providers into standalone component `providers` arrays, which
is not the intended use. This confusion is exacerbated by the fact that due
to the unified `Provider` type, this kind of misconfiguration was happily
accepted by the type system.
This commit changes the return type of `importProvidersFrom` to wrap the
returned providers in an opaque type that prevents them from being used in
component provider contexts. This, together with stronger documentation
around the purpose and functionality of `importProvidersFrom`, should
address some of the above confusion.
68597bb0ca feat(bazel): speed up dev-turnaround by bundling types only when packaging (#45405)
Speeds up the dev-turnaround by only bundling types when packaging. Currently
bundling occurs for all the `ng_module` targets in devmode.
This has various positive benefits:
* Avoidance of this rather slower operation in development
* Makes APF-built packages also handle types for `ts_library` targets consistently.
* Allows us to ensure APF entry-points have `d.ts` _always_ bundled (working with ESM
module resolution in TypeScript -- currently experimental)
9fa6f5a552 fix(core): incorrectly inserting elements inside <template> element (#43429)
Currently whenever we insert element we do it directly on the node using `appendChild` or `insertBefore`, however this doesn't work with `<template>` elements where the `template.content` has to be used.
fb9163ae50 fix(core): consistently use namespace short name rather than URI (#44766)
`Renderer2` APIs expect to be called with the namespace name rather than
the namespace URI. Rather than passing around the URI and having to
account for different calling contexts, this change consistently uses
the namespace short names.
Importantly, the URI was only used in `component_ref.ts` `create`
(because `getNamespace returned the URIs`) and `createElementNode` in
`node_manipulation.ts` (because `getNamespaceUri` also used the URIs).
In contrast, attributes would use the _short names instead of URIs_
(see `setUpAttributes` in `attrs_utils.ts`). These names are pulled
directly from the attribute, i.e. `xhtml:href` and not converted to URI.
This dichotomy is confusing and unnecessary. The change here aligns the two
approaches in order to provide consistently throughout the system.
This relates to #44766 because the `createElementNode` was calling the
`AnimationRenderer.createElement` which delegates to the
`ServerRenderer`, which in turn was only set up to expect short names.
As a result, the `NAMESPACE_URIS` lookup failed and `Domino` created
the `svg` as a regular `Element` which does not have a `styles`
property.
e0a0d05d45 feat(core): update node version support range to support v16 (#43740)
This commit updates the `node` engines range for all Angular
framework packages to:
* No longer support NodeJS v12 `< 12.20`. This is done because APF v13
  uses package export patterns which are only supported as of v12.20.
  https://nodejs.org/api/packages.html#packages_subpath_patterns.
* Allows for the latest v16 NodeJS versions. This matches with the CLI
  which added NodeJS v16 support with https://github.com/angular/angular-cli/pull/21854.
  We already limit this to `>= v16.10.0` in preparation to only
  supporting the LTS minors of Node v16.
BREAKING CHANGE: NodeJS versions older than `v12.20.0` are no longer
supported due to the Angular packages using the NodeJS package exports
feature with subpath patterns.
With the changes to support APF v13 in the `ng_package` rule, we have
ea61ec2562 feat(core): support TypeScript 4.4 (#43281)
Adds support for TypeScript 4.4. High-level overview of the changes made in this PR:
* Bumps the various packages to `typescript@4.4.2` and `tslib@2.3.0`.
* The `useUnknownInCatchVariables` compiler option has been disabled so that we don't have to cast error objects explicitly everywhere.
* TS now passes in a third argument to the `__spreadArray` call inside child class constructors. I had to update a couple of places in the runtime and ngcc to be able to pick up the calls correctly.
* TS now generates code like `(0, foo)(arg1, arg2)` for imported function calls. I had to update a few of our tests to account for it. See https://github.com/microsoft/TypeScript/pull/44624.
* Our `ngtsc` test setup calls the private `matchFiles` function from TS. I had to update our usage, because a new parameter was added.
* There was one place where we were setting the readonly `hasTrailingComma` property. I updated the usage to pass in the value when constructing the object instead.
* Some browser types were updated which meant that I had to resolve some trivial type errors.
* The downlevel decorators tranform was running into an issue where the Closure synthetic comments were being emitted twice. I've worked around it by recreating the class declaration node instead of cloning it.
e0028e5741 fix(platform-browser): configure XhrFactory to use BrowserXhr (#41313)
With this change we move `XhrFactory` to the root entrypoint of `@angular/commmon`, this is needed so that we can configure `XhrFactory` DI token at a platform level, and not add a dependency  between `@angular/platform-browser` and `@angular/common/http`.
Currently, when using `HttpClientModule` in a child module on the server, `ReferenceError: XMLHttpRequest is not defined` is being thrown because the child module has its own Injector and causes `XhrFactory` provider to be configured to use `BrowserXhr`.
Therefore, we should configure the `XhrFactory` at a platform level similar to other Browser specific providers.
* `log` - Guaranteed to be defined on `console`.
* `logGroup` and `logGroupEnd` - Only used in one place. It was in the DomAdapter for built-in null checking.
* `logGroupEnd` - Only used in one place. It was placed in the DomAdapter for built in null checking.
* `performanceNow` - Only used in one place that has to be invoked through the browser console.
* `supportsCookies` - Unused.
* `getCookie` - Unused.
* `getLocation` and `getHistory` - Only used in one place which appears to have access to the DOM
already, because it had direct accesses to `window`. Furthermore, even if this was being used
in a non-browser context already, the `DominoAdapter` was set up to throw an error.
The following APIs were changed to be more compact:
* `supportsDOMEvents` - Changed to a readonly property.
* `remove` - No longer returns the removed node.
43ecf8a77b feat(platform-server): allow shimming the global env sooner (#40559)
`@angular/platform-server` provides the foundation for rendering an
Angular app on the server. In order to achieve that, it uses a
server-side DOM implementation (currently [domino][1]).
For rendering on the server to work as closely as possible to running
the app on the browser, we need to make DOM globals (such as `Element`,
`HTMLElement`, etc.), which are normally provided by the browser,
available as globals on the server as well.
Currently, `@angular/platform-server` achieves this by extending the
`global` object with the DOM implementation provided by `domino`. This
assignment happens in the [setDomTypes()][2] function, which is
[called in a `PLATFORM_INITIALIZER`][3]. While this works in most cases,
there are some scenarios where the DOM globals are needed sooner (i.e.
before initializing the platform). See, for example, #24551 and #39950
for more details on such issues.
This commit provides a way to solve this problem by exposing a
side-effect-ful entry-point (`@angular/platform-server/init`), that
shims the `global` object with DOM globals. People will be able to
import this entry-point in their server-rendered apps before
bootstrapping the app (for example, in their `main.server.ts` file).
(See also [#39950 (comment)][4].)
In a future update, the [`universal` schematics][5] will include such an
import by default in newly generated projects.
If you use `useAbsoluteUrl` to setup `platform-server`, you now need to
We are intentionally making this a breaking change in a minor release,
d37049a2a2 feat(platform-server): add option for absolute URL HTTP support (#37539)
In version 10.0.0-next.8, we introduced absolute URL support for
server-based HTTP requests, so long as the fully-resolved URL was
provided in the initial config. However, doing so represents a
breaking change for users who already have their own interceptors
to model this functionality, since our logic executes before all
interceptors fire on a request. See original PR #37071.
Therefore, we introduce a flag to make this change consistent with
v9 behavior, allowing users to opt in to this new behavior. This
commit also fixes two issues with the previous implementation:
1. if the server was initiated with a relative URL, the absolute
URL construction would fail because needed components were empty
2. if the user's absolute URL was on a port, the port would not
be included
7301e70ddd fix(platform-server): correctly handle absolute relative URLs (#37341)
Previously, we would simply prepend any relative URL with the HREF
for the current route (pulled from document.location). However,
this does not correctly account for the leading slash URLs that
would otherwise be parsed correctly in the browser, or the
presence of a base HREF in the DOM.
Therefore, we use the built-in URL implementation for NodeJS,
which implements the WHATWG standard that's used in the browser.
98d820030c docs(platform-server): fix renderModule usage guidance with Ivy (#37296)
Before the introduction of the Ivy renderer, users would compile
their applications and use the resulting factories for SSR, since
these post-compilation artifacts ensured faster delivery. Thus,
using the original module as the rendering entrypoint was
considered suboptimal and was discouraged.
However, with the introduction of Ivy, this guidance is no longer
applicable since these factories are no longer generated.
Comparable speed is achieved using the factory-less module
renderer, and so we update the guiance in the docs for the method.
Tslib version is bound to the TypeScript version used to compile the library. Thus, we shouldn't list `tslib` as a  `peerDependencies`. * it's tricky to get out of the runfiles tree with `bazel test` as `BUILD_WORKSPACE_DIRECTORY` is not set but I employed a trick to read the `DO_NOT_BUILD_HERE` file that is one level up from `execroot` and that contains the workspace directory. This is experimental and if `bazel test //:test.debug` fails than `bazel run` is still guaranteed to work as  `BUILD_WORKSPACE_DIRECTORY` will be set in that context
* test //integration:bazel_test and //integration:bazel-schematics_test exclusively
* run "exclusive" and "manual" bazel-in-bazel integration tests in their own CI job as they take 8m+ to execute
```

* Skip all integration tests that are now handled by angular_integration_test except the tests that are tracked for payload size; these are:
- cli-hello-world*
- hello_world__closure

* add & pin @babel deps as newer versions of babel break //packages/localize/src/tools/test:test

@babel/core dep had to be pinned to 7.6.4 or else //packages/localize/src/tools/test:test failed. Also //packages/localize uses @babel/generator, @babel/template, @babel/traverse & @babel/types so these deps were added to package.json as they were not being hoisted anymore from @babel/core transitive.

NB: integration/hello_world__systemjs_umd test must run with systemjs 0.20.0
NB: systemjs must be at 0.18.10 for legacy saucelabs job to pass
NB: With Bazel 2.0, the glob for the files to test `"integration/bazel/**"` is empty if integation/bazel is in .bazelignore. This glob worked under these conditions with 1.1.0. I did not bother testing with 1.2.x as not having integration/bazel in .bazelignore is correct.

9bd9590767 refactor(ivy): change styling to use programmatic API on updates (#34804)
Previously we would write to class/style as strings `element.className` and `element.style.cssText`. Turns out that approach is good for initial render but not good for updates. Updates using this approach are problematic because we have to check to see if there was an out of bound write to style and than perform reconciliation. This also requires the browser to bring up CSS parser which is expensive.

Another problem with old approach is that we had to queue the DOM writes and flush them twice. Once on element advance instruction and once in `hostBindings`. The double flushing is expensive but it also means that a directive can observe that styles are not yet written (they are written after directive executes.)

The new approach uses `element.classList.add/remove` and `element.style.setProperty/removeProperty` API for updates only (it continues to use `element.className` and `element.style.cssText` for initial render as it is cheaper.) The other change is that the styling changes are applied immediately (no queueing). This means that it is the instruction which computes priority. In some circumstances it may result in intermediate writes which are than overwritten with new value. (This should be rare)

Overall this change deletes most of the previous code and replaces it with new simplified implement. The simplification results in code savings.

e511bfcab5 fix(ivy): ensure that the correct document is available (#33712)
Most of the use of `document` in the framework is within
the DI so they just inject the `DOCUMENT` token and are done.

Ivy is special because it does not rely upon the DI and must
get hold of the document some other way. There are a limited
number of places relevant to ivy that currently consume a global
document object.

The solution is modelled on the `LOCALE_ID` approach, which has
`getLocaleId()` and `setLocaleId()` top-level functions for ivy (see
`core/src/render3/i18n.ts`). In the rest of Angular (i.e. using DI) the
`LOCALE_ID` token has a provider that also calls setLocaleId() to
ensure that ivy has the same value.

This commit defines `getDocument()` and `setDocument() `top-level
functions for ivy. Wherever ivy needs the global `document`, it calls
`getDocument()` instead. Each of the platforms (e.g. Browser, Server,
WebWorker) have providers for `DOCUMENT`. In each of those providers
they also call `setDocument()` accordingly.
