45a6ac09fd fix(http): force macro task creation during HTTP request (#49546)
This commit adds a background macrotask when an XHR request is performed. The macrotask is started during `loadstart` and ended during `loadend` event.

The macrotask is needed so that the application is not stabilized during HTTP calls. This is important for server rendering, as the application is rendering when the application is stabilized.
The application is stabilized when there are no longer pending Macro and Micro tasks intercepted by Zone.js, Since an XHR request is none of these, we create a background macrotask so that Zone.js is
made aware that there is something pending.

Prior to this change, we patched the `HttpHandler` in `@angular/platform-server` but this is not enough, as there can be multiple `HttpHandler` in an application, example when importing `HttpClient` in a lazy loaded component/module.
Which causes a new unpatched instance of `HttpHandler` to be created in the child injector which is not intercepted by Zone.js and thus the application is stabalized and rendered before the XHR request is finalized.

NB: Zone.js is fundamental for SSR and currently, it's not possible to do SSR without it.

478c5ac150 refactor(core): internal tracker of pending tasks during initial rendering (#49576)
This commit implements a simple tracker of the pending tasks during initial rendering. The class allows adding and removing tasks from the set. The class also exposes a promise that gets resolved once the last task is removed.

This tracker is needed to keep track of ongoing processes like Router navigation (and potentially HTTP requests) and acts as a signaling mechanism to SSR and hydration that the application is in the "stable" state and a serialization can be performed.

This class would also act as a future replacement for the `ApplicationRef.isStable` for zoneless applications.

22688b8ff3 refactor(core): handle <ng-content> with *ngIf during hydration (#49590)
This commit updates the serialization logic to avoid serializing a path for a node that was content projected (based on template information), but is not present in the DOM. This can happen if a <ng-content> is used with the *ngIf="false", for example: `<ng-content *ngIf="false" />`.

f1d3be3dee refactor(core): only annotate disconnected nodes in content projection (#49549)
Previously, we've annotated all disconnected DOM nodes, even if they are not used in content projection. However, this situation is only possible in content projection and if it happens in other cases (for example, when a node was removed using direct DOM manipulations), this should be a mismatch error.

8ea1fb7396 refactor(core): exclude disconnected nodes from hydration (#49471)
This commit updates the hydration logic to handle situations where DOM nodes might end up
being disconnected from the DOM tree. We serialize ids of those nodes into the hydration
state transfer data and use the information to switch from hydration to the regular "creation
mode" at runtime.

This situation may happen during the content projection, when some nodes don't make it
into one of the content projection slots (for example, when there is no default
<ng-content /> slot in projector component's template).

Note: we leverage the fact that we have this information available in the DOM emulation
layer (in Domino) for now. Longer-term solution should not rely on the DOM emulation and
only use internal data structures and state to compute this information.

41f27ad086 refactor(platform-server): remove renderApplication overload that accepts a component (#49463)
This commit removes the `renderApplication` overload that accepts a root component as the first parameter.

BREAKING CHANGE:

`renderApplication` method no longer accepts a root component as first argument. Instead, provide a bootstrapping function that returns a `Promise<ApplicationRef>`.

Before
```ts
const output: string = await renderApplication(RootComponent, options);
```

Now
```ts
const bootstrap = () => bootstrapApplication(RootComponent, appConfig);
const output: string = await renderApplication(bootstrap, options);
a0c289cbac refactor(core): avoid repeated views in serialized data (#49475)
This commit updates the serialization logic to recognized similar repeated views and instead of including the same info over and over again, a special field is added to the serialized view object with a number of repetitions. The hydration logic also recognizes the flag and creates the necessary number of dehydrated views in a container.
This optimization should help minimize the amount of extra annotations required for cases like *ngFor with large number of items.
ced237693a refactor(core): adding hydration for content projection (#49454)
This commit adds serialization and hydration logic for content projection.
While hydration for regular elements relies on their location in the TNode tree, the content projection may move elements around, so in order to hydrate them correcty, the runtime needs some extra information. This commit adds a serialization logic that adds element locations (instructions on how to navigate to a particular element from another known location of other element) into the hydration state for the following cases:
- when a TNode is a first element in projection segment (other nodes are linked from that node)
- when a TNode's next sibling is different before and after projection (we serialize extra info about the template-based sibling)
- when a TNode's previous sibling was a content projection (i.e. `<ng-content>` slot), because we can not rely on the previous element in this case (projection happens at a later point)
9165ff2517 fix(platform-browser): reuse server generated component styles (#48253)
Prior to this change component styles generated on the server where removed prior to the client side component being rendered and attached it's own styles. In some cases this caused flickering. To mitigate this `initialNavigation: enabledBlocking'` was introduced which allowed the remove of server styles to be defer to a latter stage when the application has finished initialization.
This commit changes the need for this, by not removing the server generated component styles and reuse them for client side rendering.
4ae4090d3c refactor(platform-server): Implement hydration state transfer machinery (#49271)
**Important note**: this is a first commit in a series of commits that will be needed
to support non-destructive hydration. Stay tuned for further updates!
This commit lays the foundation on top of which more hydration logic will be
added in follow up PRs. This PR includes:
* Initial serialization of hydration data
* Data transfer of hydration annotations from server side to client
* Accessing hydration info and populating internal data structures
* Initial APIs (currently private) that enable hydration (in a tree-shakable manner)
* Cleanup of annotations post hydration
* Initial test infrastructure and basic test cases
This commit does **not** expose any public APIs. They'll be exposed later, when
more hydration logic is implemented to a state when it can cover most common
use-cases.
2fc5b70fce fix(platform-server): insert transfer state script before other script tags (#48868)
Previously, the state `script` was always appended as the last item in the `body` tag. This can result in the state not being available when the Angular application is bootstrap.
A workaround for this was to delay the bootstrapping of the application until by using the `DOMContentLoaded` event listener.
```ts
const bootstrap = () => platformBrowserDynamic().bootstrapModule(AppModule);

document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', bootstrap);
```
With this change the above workaround is no longer necessary as the state `script` tag is now added prior of any other `script` which guarantees that the state is present prior of the Angular application is bootstrapped.
c9415e4d75 build: ensure bootstrap transitive runfiles are made available (#48521)
Since we generate a `.mjs` file as entry-point for jasmine tests,
a couple of issues prevented the transitive dependencies from
bootstrap targets to be brought in (causing resolution errors):
1. The `_files` (previously `_esm2015`) targets are no longer needed,
   and they also miss all the information on runfiles.
2. The aspect for computing linker mappings does not respect the
   `bootstrap` attribute from the `spec_entrypoint` so we manually
   add the extract ESM output targets (this rule works with the aspect
   and forwards linker mappings).
790ee17e80 fix(platform-server): call onSerialize when state is empty (#47888)
fb9163ae50 fix(core): consistently use namespace short name rather than URI (#44766)
`Renderer2` APIs expect to be called with the namespace name rather than
the namespace URI. Rather than passing around the URI and having to
account for different calling contexts, this change consistently uses
the namespace short names.
Importantly, the URI was only used in `component_ref.ts` `create`
(because `getNamespace returned the URIs`) and `createElementNode` in
`node_manipulation.ts` (because `getNamespaceUri` also used the URIs).
In contrast, attributes would use the _short names instead of URIs_
(see `setUpAttributes` in `attrs_utils.ts`). These names are pulled
directly from the attribute, i.e. `xhtml:href` and not converted to URI.
This dichotomy is confusing and unnecessary. The change here aligns the two
approaches in order to provide consistently throughout the system.
This relates to #44766 because the `createElementNode` was calling the
`AnimationRenderer.createElement` which delegates to the
`ServerRenderer`, which in turn was only set up to expect short names.
As a result, the `NAMESPACE_URIS` lookup failed and `Domino` created
the `svg` as a regular `Element` which does not have a `styles`
property.
3c66b100dd perf(common): remove unused methods from DomAdapter (#41102)
The `DomAdapter` is present in all Angular apps and its methods aren't tree shakeable.
These changes remove the methods that either aren't being used anymore or were only
used by our own tests. Note that these changes aren't breaking, because the adapter
is an internal API.
The following methods were removed:
* `getProperty` - only used within our own tests.
* `log` - Guaranteed to be defined on `console`.
* `logGroup` and `logGroupEnd` - Only used in one place. It was in the DomAdapter for built-in null checking.
* `logGroupEnd` - Only used in one place. It was placed in the DomAdapter for built in null checking.
* `performanceNow` - Only used in one place that has to be invoked through the browser console.
* `supportsCookies` - Unused.
* `getCookie` - Unused.
* `getLocation` and `getHistory` - Only used in one place which appears to have access to the DOM
already, because it had direct accesses to `window`. Furthermore, even if this was being used
in a non-browser context already, the `DominoAdapter` was set up to throw an error.
The following APIs were changed to be more compact:
* `supportsDOMEvents` - Changed to a readonly property.
* `remove` - No longer returns the removed node.
7768aeb62f fix(platform-server): Resolve absolute URL from baseUrl (#39334)
This commit fixes a bug when `useAbsoluteUrl` is set to true and
`ServerPlatformLocation` infers the base url from the supplied
`url`. User should explicitly set the `baseUrl` when they turn on
`useAbsoluteUrl`.
Breaking change:
If you use `useAbsoluteUrl` to setup `platform-server`, you now need to
also specify `baseUrl`.
We are intentionally making this a breaking change in a minor release,
because if `useAbsoluteUrl` is set to `true` then the behavior of the
application could be unpredictable, resulting in issues that are hard to
discover but could be affecting production environments.
e34c33cd46 fix(platform-server): remove styles added by ServerStylesHost on destruction (#38367)
When a ServerStylesHost instance is destroyed, all of the shared styles added to the DOM
head element by that instance should be removed.  Without this removal, over time a large
number of style rules will build up and cause extra memory pressure.  This brings the
ServerStylesHost in line with the DomStylesHost used by the platform browser, which
performs this same cleanup.
d37049a2a2 feat(platform-server): add option for absolute URL HTTP support (#37539)
In version 10.0.0-next.8, we introduced absolute URL support for
server-based HTTP requests, so long as the fully-resolved URL was
provided in the initial config. However, doing so represents a
breaking change for users who already have their own interceptors
to model this functionality, since our logic executes before all
interceptors fire on a request. See original PR #37071.
Therefore, we introduce a flag to make this change consistent with
v9 behavior, allowing users to opt in to this new behavior. This
commit also fixes two issues with the previous implementation:
1. if the server was initiated with a relative URL, the absolute
URL construction would fail because needed components were empty
2. if the user's absolute URL was on a port, the port would not
be included
7301e70ddd fix(platform-server): correctly handle absolute relative URLs (#37341)
Previously, we would simply prepend any relative URL with the HREF
for the current route (pulled from document.location). However,
this does not correctly account for the leading slash URLs that
would otherwise be parsed correctly in the browser, or the
presence of a base HREF in the DOM.
Therefore, we use the built-in URL implementation for NodeJS,
which implements the WHATWG standard that's used in the browser.
We also pull the base HREF from the DOM, falling back on the full
HREF as the browser would, to form the correct request URL.
1950e2d9ba fix(ivy): throw on bindings to unknown properties (#28537)
This commit adds a devMode-only check which will throw if a user
attempts to bind a property that does not match a directive
input or a known HTML property.
Example:
```
<div [unknownProp]="someValue"></div>
```
The above will throw because "unknownProp" is not a known
property of HTMLDivElement.
This check is similar to the check executed in View Engine during
template parsing, but occurs at runtime instead of compile-time.
Note: This change uncovered an existing bug with host binding
inheritance, so some Material tests had to be turned off. They
will be fixed in an upcoming PR.
df292c2ce0 fix(ivy): TestBed should not clobber compilation of global-scope modules (#28033)
When an @NgModule decorator executes, the module is added to a queue in
render3/jit/module.ts. Reading an ngComponentDef property causes this queue
to be flushed, ensuring that the component gets the correct module scope
applied.
In before_each.ts, a global beforeEach is added to all Angular tests which
calls TestBed.resetTestingModule() prior to running each test. This in turn
clears the module compilation queue (which is correct behavior, as modules
declared within the test should not leak outside of it via the queue).
So far this is okay. But before the first test runs, the module compilation
queue is full of modules declared in global scope. No definitions have been
read, so no flushes of the queue have been triggered. The global beforeEach
triggers a reset of the queue, aborting all of the in-progress global
compilation, breaking those classes when they're later used in tests.
This commit adds logic to TestBedRender3 to respect the state of the module
queue before the TestBed is first initialized or reset. The queue is flushed
prior to such an operation to ensure global compilation is allowed to finish
properly.
With this fix, a platform-server test now passes (previously the <my-child>
element was not detected as a component, because the encompassing module
never finished compilation.
e94975d109 fix(ivy): check semantics of NgModule for consistency (#27604)
`NgModule` requires that `Component`s/`Directive`s/`Pipe`s are listed in
declarations, and that each `Component`s/`Directive`s/`Pipe` is declared
in exactly one `NgModule`. This change adds runtime checks to ensure
that these sementics are true at runtime.
There will need to be seperate set of checks for the AoT path of the
codebase to verify that same set of semantics hold. Due to current
design there does not seem to be an easy way to share the two checks
because JIT deal with references where as AoT deals with AST nodes.
