5fb707f81a fix(compiler): produce placeholder for blocks in i18n bundles (#52958)
When blocks were initially implemented, they were represented as containers in the i18n AST. This is problematic, because block affect the structure of the message.

These changes introduce a new `BlockPlaceholder` AST node and integrate it into the i18n pipeline. With the new node blocks are represented with the `START_BLOCK_<name>` and `CLOSE_BLOCK_<name>` placeholders.

c07805612f test(core): clean up unnecessary nesting in old tests (#52239)
A lot of our tests are wrapped in `{}` which serves no purpose, aside from increasing the nesting level and, in some cases, causing confusion. The braces appear to be a leftover from a time when all tests were wrapped in a `function main() {}`. The function declaration was removed in #21053, but the braces remained, presumably because it was easier to search&replace for `function main()`, but not to remove the braces at the same time.

The existing block types changed in the following ways:

**Conditional blocks:**
```html
<!-- Before -->
{#if cond}
  Main content
  {:else if otherCond}
    Else if content
  {:else}
    Else content
{/if}
<!-- After -->
@if (cond) {
  Main content
} @else if (otherCond) {
  Else if content
} @else {
  Else content
}
```

**Deferred blocks**
```html
<!-- Before -->
{#defer when isLoaded}
  Main content
  {:loading} Loading...
  {:placeholder} <icon>pending</icon>
  {:error} Failed to load
{/defer}
<!-- After -->
@defer (when isLoaded) {
  Main content
} @loading {
  Loading...
} @placeholder {
  <icon>pending</icon>
} @error {
  Failed to load
}
```

**Switch blocks:**
```html
<!-- Before -->
{#switch value}
  {:case 1}
    One
  {:case 2}
    Two
  {:default}
    Default
{/switch}
<!-- After -->
@switch (value) {
  @case (1) {
    One
  }
  @case (2) {
    Two
  }
  @default {
    Default
  }
}
```

**For loops**
```html
<!-- Before -->
{#for item of items; track item}
  {{item.name}}
  {:empty} No items
{/for}
<!-- After -->
@for (item of items; track item) {
  {{item.name}}
} @empty {
0f10d75228 refactor(compiler): use native BigInt when calculating i18n digests (#48321)
To further modernize and improve the performance of the i18n digest generation,
The 64-bit aspects of the process now use the native `BigInt` instead of a
custom JavaScript implementation. This removes the need for the big_integer
helper code and associated tests as the code was not used anywhere else in the
framework. Only the `BigInt` constructor, `BigInt.asUintN` function, and
`.toString` function are currently used. `BigInt` literals can unfortunately
not yet be used due to the bazel test devmode setup which compiles the TypeScript
code at an EcmaScript level that does not yet support the literals.
Browser support information:
- BigInt asUintN: https://caniuse.com/mdn-javascript_builtins_bigint_asuintn
6755f5354c fix(compiler): return full spans for Comment nodes (#50855)
Change sourceSpan for Comment nodes to cover the whole comment
instead of just the opening token.
The primary motivation for this is the interaction between ESLint and
`@angular-eslint`. ESLint can detect unused `eslint-disable` directives
in comments and automatically remove them when running with `--fix`.
This is based on ranges computed from AST spans, and as a result
does not work inside Angular templates - right now all comments
claim to be 4 characters long so only the opening `<!--` is removed.
b14a78ebb0 refactor(compiler): implement block syntax in html ast (#50953)
⚠️Disclaimer⚠️ this PR implements syntax that is still in an open RFC. It will be adjusted once the RFC is closed.
These changes implement the `BlockGroup` and `Block` AST nodes that will then be used to generate instructions based on the new syntax. A `BlockGroup` is a container for `Block` instances. The first block of a block is always implicit and required while any subsequent blocks are optional.
bb9ff6003c test: remove view-engine-only tests (#43884)
This commit removes most tests that were designated as only covering View
Engine code. It also removes tag filters from CI and local commands to run
tests.
In a few cases (such as with the packages/compiler tests), this tag was
improperly applied, and certain test cases have been added back running in
Ivy mode.
This commit also empties `@angular/compiler/testing` as it is no longer
necessary (this is safe since compiler packages are not public API). It can
be deleted in the future.
c85bcb0c63 feat(compiler): reference ICU message IDs from their placeholders (#43534)
When extracting i18n messages from templates, ICU messages are split out from the
message that contains them. This can make it difficult in the translation files to match up
the two messages, especially if the ICU is reused in multiple placeholders.
This commit builds on top of the previous one to expose the message ID of ICU messages
from the ICU placeholders as additional metadata in the `$localize` tagged strings.
Now the metablock following any placeholder can also contain the associated ID
delimited from the placeholder name by `@@`.
604b4e46c8 perf(compiler): optimize computation of i18n message ids (#39694)
Message ID computation makes extensive use of big integer
multiplications in order to translate the message's fingerprint into
a numerical representation. In large compilations with heavy use of i18n
this was showing up high in profiler sessions.
There are two factors contributing to the bottleneck:
1. a suboptimal big integer representation using strings, which requires
repeated allocation and conversion from a character to numeric digits
and back.
2. repeated computation of the necessary base-256 exponents and their
multiplication factors.
The first bottleneck is addressed using a representation that uses an
array of individual digits. This avoids repeated conversion and
allocation overhead is also greatly reduced, as adding two big integers
can now be done in-place with virtually no memory allocations.
The second point is addressed by a memoized exponentiation pool to
optimize the multiplication of a base-256 exponent.
As an additional optimization are the two 32-bit words now converted to
decimal per word, instead of going through an intermediate byte buffer
and doing the decimal conversion per byte.
The results of these optimizations depend a lot on the number of i18n
messages for which a message should be computed. Benchmarks have shown
that computing message IDs is now ~6x faster for 1,000 messages, ~14x
faster for 10,000 messages, and ~24x faster for 100,000 messages.
7e0b3fd953 fix(compiler-cli): compute source-mappings for localized strings (#38645)
Previously, localized strings had very limited or incorrect source-mapping
information available.
Now the i18n AST nodes and related output AST nodes include source-span
This information is then used when generating the final localized string
ASTs to ensure that the correct source-mapping is rendered.
1d8c5d88cd refactor(compiler): element.sourceSpan should span the outerHTML (#38581)
Previously, the `sourceSpan` and `startSourceSpan` were the same
object, which meant that you had the following situation:
```
element = <div>some content</div>
sourceSpan = <div>
startSourceSpan = <div>
endSourceSpan = </div>
```
This made `sourceSpan` redundant and meant that if you
wanted a span for the whole element including its content
and closing tag, it had to be computed.
Now `sourceSpan` is separated from `startSourceSpan`
resulting in:
```
element = <div>some content</div>
sourceSpan = <div>some content</div>
startSourceSpan = <div>
endSourceSpan = </div>
```
9188751adc fix(ivy): i18n - do not render message ids unnecessarily (#32867)
In an attempt to be compatible with previous translation files
the Angular compiler was generating instructions that always
included the message id. This was because it was not possible
to accurately re-generate the id from the calls to `$localize()` alone.
In line with https://hackmd.io/EQF4_-atSXK4XWg8eAha2g this
commit changes the compiler so that it only renders ids if they are
"custom" ones provided by the template author.
NOTE:
When translating messages generated by the Angular compiler
from i18n tags in templates, the `$localize.translate()` function
will compute message ids, if no custom id is provided, using a
common digest function that only relies upon the information
available in the `$localize()` calls.
This computed message id will not be the same as the message
ids stored in legacy translation files. Such files will need to be
migrated to use the new common digest function.
This only affects developers who have been trialling `$localize`, have
been calling `loadTranslations()`, and are not exclusively using custom
ids in their templates.
0ddf0c4895 fix(compiler): do not remove whitespace wrapping i18n expansions (#31962)
Similar to interpolation, we do not want to completely remove whitespace
nodes that are siblings of an expansion.
For example, the following template
```html
<div>
  <strong>items left<strong> {count, plural, =1 {item} other {items}}
</div>
```
was being collapsed to
```html
<div><strong>items left<strong>{count, plural, =1 {item} other {items}}</div>
```
which results in the text looking like
```
items left4
```
instead it should be collapsed to
```html
<div><strong>items left<strong> {count, plural, =1 {item} other {items}}</div>
```
which results in the text looking like
```
items left 4
```
---
**Analysis of the code and manual testing has shown that this does not cause
the generated ids to change, so there is no breaking change here.**
673ac2945c refactor(compiler): use options argument for parsers (#28055)
This commit consolidates the options that can modify the
parsing of text (e.g. HTML, Angular templates, CSS, i18n)
into an AST for further processing into a single `options`
hash.
This makes the code cleaner and more readable, but also
enables us to support further options to parsing without
triggering wide ranging changes to code that should not
be affected by these new options.  Specifically, it will let
us pass information about the placement of a template
that is being parsed in its containing file, which is essential
for accurate SourceMap processing.
e99d860393 feat(compiler): add "original" placeholder value on extracted XMB (#25079)
Update XMB placeholders(<ph>) to include the original value on top of an
example. Placeholders can by definition have one example(<ex>) tag and a
text node. The text node is used by TC as the "original" value from the
placeholder, while the example should represent a dummy value.
For example: <ph name="PET"><ex>Gopher</ex>{{ petName }}</ph>.
This change makes sure that we have the original text, but it *DOES NOT*
make sure that the example is correct. The example has the same wrong
behavior of showing the interpolation text rather than a useful
example.
No breaking changes, but tools that depend on the previous behavior and
don't consider the full XMB definition may fail to parse the XMB.
fcadbf4bf6 perf: switch angular to use StaticInjector instead of ReflectiveInjector
This change allows ReflectiveInjector to be tree shaken resulting
    Static: bundle.js:  154,889(33,555 gzip)
BREAKING CHANGE:
`platformXXXX()` no longer accepts providers which depend on reflection.
Specifically the method signature when from `Provider[]` to
`StaticProvider[]`.
Example:
Before:
```
[
  MyClass,
  {provide: ClassA, useClass: SubClassA}
]

```
After:
```
[
  {provide: MyClass, deps: [Dep1,...]},
  {provide: ClassA, useClass: SubClassA, deps: [Dep1,...]}
]
```
NOTE: This only applies to platform creation and providers for the JIT
compiler. It does not apply to `@Compotent` or `@NgModule` provides
declarations.
Benchpress note: Previously Benchpress also supported reflective
provides, which now require static providers.
DEPRECATION:
- `ReflectiveInjector` is now deprecated as it will be remove. Use
  `Injector.create` as a replacement.
