a1001f2ea0 fix(core): disable tsickle pass when producing APF packages (#37221)
As of TypeScript 3.9, the tsc emit is not compatible with Closure
Compiler due to
https://github.com/microsoft/TypeScript/pull/32011.

There is some hope that this will be fixed by a solution like the one
proposed in
https://github.com/microsoft/TypeScript/issues/38374 but currently it's
unclear if / when that will
happen.

Since the Closure support has been somewhat already broken, and the
tsickle pass has been a source
of headaches for some time for Angular packages, we are removing it for
now while we rethink our
strategy to make Angular Closure compatible outside of Google.

This change has no effect on our Closure compatibility within Google
which work well because all the
code is compiled from sources and passed through tsickle.

This change only disables the tsickle pass but doesn't remove it.

A follow up PR should either remove all the traces of tscikle or
re-enable the fixed version.

BREAKING CHANGE: Angular npm packages no longer contain jsdoc comments
to support Closure Compiler's advanced optimizations

The support for Closure compiler in Angular packages has been
experimental and broken for quite some
time.

As of TS3.9 Closure is unusable with the JavaScript emit. Please follow
https://github.com/microsoft/TypeScript/issues/38374 for more
information and updates.

If you used Closure compiler with Angular in the past, you will likely
be better off consuming
Angular packages built from sources directly rather than consuming the
version we publish on npm
which is primarily optimized for Webpack/Rollup + Terser build pipeline.

As a temporary workaround you might consider using your current build
pipeline with Closure flag
`--compilation_level=SIMPLE`. This flag will ensure that your build
pipeline produces buildable and
runnable artifacts, at the cost of increased payload size due to
advanced optimizations being disabled.

If you were affected by this change, please help us understand your
needs by leaving a comment on https://github.com/angular/angular/issues/37234.

772c5b8f64 refactor: update to tslib 2.0 and move to direct dependencies (#37198)
Tslib version is bound to the TypeScript version used to compile the library. Thus, we shouldn't list `tslib` as a `peerDependencies`. This is because, a user can install libraries which have been compiled with older versions of TypeScript and thus require multiple `tslib` versions to be installed.

318e9372c9 feat(dev-infra): move merge script over from components repo (#37138)
Moves the merge script from the components repository over
to the shared dev-infra package. The merge script has been
orginally built for all Angular repositories, but we just
kept it in the components repo temporarily to test it.

Since everything went well on the components side, we now
move the script over and integrate it into the dev-infra package.

4c92cf43cf feat(compiler-cli): report error if undecorated class with Angular features is discovered (#36921)
Previously in v9, we deprecated the pattern of undecorated base classes
that rely on Angular features. We ran a migration for this in version 9
and will run the same on in version 10 again.

To ensure that projects do not regress and start using the unsupported
pattern again, we report an error in ngtsc if such undecorated classes
are discovered.

We keep the compatibility code enabled in ngcc so that libraries
can be still be consumed, even if they have not been migrated yet.

Resolves FW-2130.

c98a4d6ddd feat(ngcc): support for new APF where module points to esm2015 output (#36944)
As of version 10, libraries following the APF will no longer contain
ESM5 output. Hence, tests in ngcc need to be updated as they currently
rely on the release output of `@angular/core`.

Additionally, we'd need to support in ngcc that the `module`
property of entry-points no longer necessarily refers to
`esm5` output, but instead can also target `esm2015`.

We currently achieve this by checking the path the `module`
property points to. We can do this because as per APF, the
folder name is known for the esm2015 output. Long-term for
more coverage, we want to sniff the format by looking for
known ES2015 constructs in the file `module` refers to.

34aa5570ed fix(dev-infra): fix commit message validation in git worktrees (#36507)
Previously, the `pre-commit-validate` command (used in the `commit-msg`
git hook) assumed that the commit message was stored in
`.git/COMMIT_EDITMSG` file. This is usually true, but not when using
[git worktrees](https://git-scm.com/docs/git-worktree), where `.git` is
a file containing the path to the actual git directory.

This commit fixes it by taking advantage of the fact that git passes the
actual path of the file holding the commit message to the `commit-msg`
hook and husky exposes the arguments passed by git as
`$HUSKY_GIT_PARAMS`.

NOTE:
We cannot use the environment variable directly in the `commit-msg` hook
command, because environment variables need to be referenced differently
on Windows (`%VAR_NAME%`) vs macOS/Linux (`$VAR_NAME`). Instead, we pass
the name of the environment variable and the validation script reads the
variable's value off of `process.env`.

f40d51733a fix(dev-infra): use commit message validation from @angular/dev-infra-private (#36172)
Prior to this change we manage a local version of commit message validation
in addition to the commit message validation tool contained in the ng-dev
tooling. By adding the ability to validate a range of commit messages
together, the remaining piece of commit message validation that is in the
local version is replicated.

We use both commands provided by the `ng-dev commit-message` tooling:
- pre-commit-validate: Set to automatically run on an git hook to validate
    commits as they are created locally.
- validate-range: Run by CI for every PR, testing that all of the commits
    added by the PR are valid when considered together. Ensuring that all
    fixups are matched to another commit in the change.

5b6ced5599 build: update to rules_nodejs 1.5.0 (#36307)
### New stuff

* The `ts_project` rule is a simple wrapper around the TypeScript compiler, `tsc`. This is an alternative to `ts_library` but not a replacement. Read more about the trade-offs at https://bazelbuild.github.io/rules_nodejs/TypeScript#alternatives or read the [API docs](https://bazelbuild.github.io/rules_nodejs/TypeScript#ts_project)
* `pkg_npm` can now be used as a dependency within your repo as well as for publishing to npm. It provides a `LinkablePackageInfo` which is our internal API to pass package name/path to downstream compilations, essentially providing the "Lerna" feature.
* There is experimental support for Bazel's "worker mode" in `rollup_bundle`, which essentially puts Rollup in watch mode. Add the `supports_workers = True` attribute to opt-in.
* Better support for [pre-defined label variables](https://docs.bazel.build/versions/master/be/make-variables.html#predefined_label_variables) like `$(rootpath)` and `$(execpath)` - we no longer recommend using `$(location)` at all.

See release notes https://github.com/bazelbuild/rules_nodejs/releases/tag/1.5.0 for more info.

44acf6734b build: allow custom module resolution for ts-circular-deps tests (#36226)
Currently the `ts-circular-deps` tool uses a hard-coded module resolver
that only works in the `angular/angular` repository.

If the tool is consumed in other repositories through the shared
dev-infra package, the module resolution won't work, and a few
resolvable imports (usually cross-entry-points) are accidentally
skipped. For each test, the resolution might differ, so tests can
now configure their module resolution in a configuration file.

Note that we intentionally don't rely on tsconfig's for module
resolution as parsing their mappings rather complicates the
circular dependency tool. Additionally, not every test has a
corresponding tsconfig file.

Also, hard-coding mappings to `@angular/*` while accepting a
path to the packages folder would work, but it would mean
that the circular deps tool is no longer self-contained. Rather,
and also for better flexibility, a custom resolver should be
specified.

9ea53803f7 build: create tool for validating typescript circular dependencies (#35647)
Creates a tool for validating TypeScript circular dependencies. The tool
has been designed in a way that allows us to slowly burn down the amount
of circular dependencies while ensuring that we don't regress.

The tool doesn't rely on Madge since it doesn't provide a programmatic
way for doing path mapping. We need path mapping since we also want to
check for cycles across different entry-points or packages. The tool
uses the TypeScript AST to manually collect cycles. This code is not
a lot of bloat and also gives us more flexibility (if we ever need it).

46fe8fb8b4 build: depend on bazelisk rather than directly on Bazel (#36078)

- we now use a .bazelversion file rather than package.json to pin the version of bazel we want. This means even if you install bazel on your computer rather than via yarn, you'll still get a warning if your bazel version is wrong.
- you no longer end up downloading three copies of bazel due to bugs in both npm and yarn where they download all tarballs before checking the metadata to see which are usable on the local platform.
- bazelisk correctly handles the tools/bazel trick for wrapping functionality, which we want to use to instrument developer build latencies

95c729f5d1 build: typescript 3.8 support (#35864)
This commit adds support in the Angular monorepo and in the Angular
compiler(s) for TypeScript 3.8. All packages can now compile with
TS 3.8.

For most of the repo, only a handful few typings adjustments were needed:

* TS 3.8 has a new `CustomElementConstructor` DOM type, which enforces a
  zero-argument constructor. The `NgElementConstructor` type previously
  declared a required `injector` argument despite the fact that its
  implementation allowed `injector` to be optional. The interface type was
  updated to reflect the optionality of the argument.
* Certain error messages were changed, and expectations in tests were
  updated as a result.
* tsserver (part of language server) now returns performance information in
  responses, so test expectations were changed to only assert on the actual
  body content of responses.

For compiler-cli and schematics (which use the TypeScript AST) a major
breaking change was the introduction of the export form:

```typescript
export * as foo from 'bar';
```

This is a `ts.NamespaceExport`, and the `exportClause` of a
`ts.ExportDeclaration` can now take this type as well as `ts.NamedExports`.
This broke a lot of places where `exportClause` was assumed to be
`ts.NamedExports`.

For the most part these breakages were in cases where it is not necessary
to handle the new `ts.NamedExports` anyway. ngtsc's design uses the
`ts.TypeChecker` APIs to understand syntax and so automatically supports the
new form of exports.

The View Engine compiler on the other hand extracts TS structures into
metadata.json files, and that format was not designed for namespaced
exports. As a result it will take a nontrivial amount of work if we want to
support such exports in View Engine. For now, these new exports are not
accounted for in metadata.json, and so using them in "folded" Angular
expressions will result in errors (probably claiming that the referenced
exported namespace doesn't exist).

Care was taken to only use TS APIs which are present in 3.7/3.6, as Angular
needs to remain compatible with these for the time being.

This commit does not update angular.io.

191e4d15b5 build: fix elements test failures on IE (#35940)
Fixes the following issues which caused the `elements` unit tests to break on IE:
1. `core.js` wasn't included which caused an error about `Promise` and `Symbol` to be thrown.
2. We were using a version of `@webcomponents/custom-elements` which was shipping ES6 code to npm. As a result, IE was throwing a syntax error.

5615928df9 build: no longer run tslint from within gulp task (#35800)
Switches our tslint setup to the standard `tslint.json` linter excludes.
The set of files that need to be linted is specified through a Yarn script.

For IDEs, open files are linted with the closest tslint configuration, if the
tslint IDE extension is set up, and the source file is not excluded.

We cannot use the language service plugin for tslint as we have multiple nested
tsconfig files, and we don't want to add the plugin to each tsconfig. We
could reduce that bloat by just extending from a top-level tsconfig that
defines the language service plugin, but unfortunately the tslint plugin does
not allow the use of tslint configs which are not part of the tsconfig project.

This is problematic since the tslint configuration is at the project root, and we
don't want to copy tslint configurations next to each tsconfig file.

Additionally, linting of `d.ts` files has been re-enabled. This has been
disabled in the past and a TODO has been left. This commit fixes the
lint issues and re-enables linting.

a55f7aeff0 build: enable IDE type checking of $localize code (#35711)
The `packages/localize/src/tools` folder was excluded
from the top level `tsconfig.json` which meant that in IDEs
these source files were not being given the correct configuration.
It was originally excluded because it required the native `node` typings
but this is no longer a requirement.

Removing this folder from the exclusion list exposed a new issue
where there was a typings mismatch between `@babel/...` sources
and the associated `@types/babel__...` typings packages.

A clean up of the package.json and yarn.lock appears to fix this.

df816c9c80 feat(ngcc): implement source-map flattening (#35132)
The library used by ngcc to update the source files (MagicString) is able
to generate a source-map but it is not able to account for any previous
source-map that the input text is already associated with.

There have been various attempts to fix this but none have been very
successful, since it is not a trivial problem to solve.

This commit contains a novel approach that is able to load up a tree of
source-files connected by source-maps and flatten them down into a single
source-map that maps directly from the final generated file to the original
sources referenced by the intermediate source-maps.

dde68ff954 build: add npm_integration_test && angular_integration_test (#33927)
* it's tricky to get out of the runfiles tree with `bazel test` as `BUILD_WORKSPACE_DIRECTORY` is not set but I employed a trick to read the `DO_NOT_BUILD_HERE` file that is one level up from `execroot` and that contains the workspace directory. This is experimental and if `bazel test //:test.debug` fails than `bazel run` is still guaranteed to work as `BUILD_WORKSPACE_DIRECTORY` will be set in that context

* test //integration:bazel_test and //integration:bazel-schematics_test exclusively

* run "exclusive" and "manual" bazel-in-bazel integration tests in their own CI job as they take 8m+ to execute

```
//integration:bazel-schematics_test                                      PASSED in 317.2s
//integration:bazel_test                                                 PASSED in 167.8s
```

* Skip all integration tests that are now handled by angular_integration_test except the tests that are tracked for payload size; these are:
- cli-hello-world*
- hello_world__closure

* add & pin @babel deps as newer versions of babel break //packages/localize/src/tools/test:test

@babel/core dep had to be pinned to 7.6.4 or else //packages/localize/src/tools/test:test failed. Also //packages/localize uses @babel/generator, @babel/template, @babel/traverse & @babel/types so these deps were added to package.json as they were not being hoisted anymore from @babel/core transitive.

NB: integration/hello_world__systemjs_umd test must run with systemjs 0.20.0
NB: systemjs must be at 0.18.10 for legacy saucelabs job to pass
NB: With Bazel 2.0, the glob for the files to test `"integration/bazel/**"` is empty if integation/bazel is in .bazelignore. This glob worked under these conditions with 1.1.0. I did not bother testing with 1.2.x as not having integration/bazel in .bazelignore is correct.

8e12707f88 build: remove dependency on @types/chokidar (#35371)
We recently updated chokidar to `3.0.0`. The latest version of
chokidar provides TypeScript types on its own and makes the extra
dependency on the `@types` unnecessary.

This seems to have caused the `build-packages-dist` script to fail with
an error like:

```
[strictDeps] transitive dependency on external/npm/node_modules/chokidar/types/index.d.ts
   not allowed. Please add the BUILD target to your rule's deps.
```

It's unclear why that happens, but a reasonable theory would be that
the TS compilation accidentally picked up the types from `chokidar`
instead of `@types/chokidar`, and the strict deps `@bazel/typescript`
check reported this as issue because it's not an explicit target dependency.

acfd0edd38 test: use puppeteer in integration tests and to download correct chromedriver (#35049)
This means integration tests no longer need to depend on a $CI_CHROMEDRIVER_VERSION_ARG environment variable to specify which chromedriver version to download to match the locally installed chrome. This was bad DX and not having it specified was not reliable as webdriver-manager would not always download the chromedriver version to work with the locally installed chrome.

webdriver-manager update --gecko=false --standalone=false $CI_CHROMEDRIVER_VERSION_ARG is now replaced with node webdriver-manager-update.js in the root package.json, which checks which version of chrome puppeteer has come bundled with & downloads informs webdriver-manager to download the corresponding chrome driver version.

Integration tests now use "webdriver-manager": "file:../../node_modules/webdriver-manager" so they don't have to waste time calling webdriver-manager update in postinstall

"// resolutions": "Ensure a single version of webdriver-manager which comes from root node_modules that has already run webdriver-manager update",
"resolutions": {
"**/webdriver-manager": "file:../../node_modules/webdriver-manager"
}
This should speed up each integration postinstall by a few seconds.

Further, integration test package.json files link puppeteer via file:../../node_modules/puppeteer which is the ideal situation as the puppeteer post-install won't download chrome if it is already downloaded. In CI, since node_modules is cached it should not need to download Chrome either unless the node_modules cache is busted.

NB: each version of puppeteer comes bundles with a specific version of chrome. Root package.json & yarn.lock currently pull down puppeteer 2.1.0 which comes with chrome 80. See https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer#q-which-chromium-version-does-puppeteer-use for more info.

Only two references to CI_CHROMEDRIVER_VERSION_ARG left in integration tests at integration/bazel-schematics/test.sh which I'm not entirely sure how to get rid of it

Use a lightweight puppeteer=>chrome version mapping instead of launching chrome and calling browser.version()

Launching puppeteer headless chrome and calling browser.version() was a heavy-handed approach to determine the Chrome version. A small and easy to update mappings file is a better solution and it means that the `yarn install` step does not require chrome shared libs available on the system for its postinstall step

fd3cfbb678 build: create bazel marco to test for circular dependencies (#34774)
Creates a Bazel macro that can be used to test packages for
circular dependencies. We face one limitation with Bazel:

 * Built packages use module imports, and not relative source file
 paths. This means we need custom resolution.

Fortunately, tools like `madge` support custom resolution.

Also removes the outdated `check-cycles` gulp task that
didn't catch circular dependencies. It seems like the test
became broken when we switched the packages-dist output to Bazel. It
breaks because the Bazel output doesn't use relative paths, but uses
the module imports. This will be handled in the new Bazel macro/rule.

In this release, the ts_devserver API changed and it no longer injects html script tags into a provided index.html file. The diff on this commit is large as this breaking change affects quite a few tests.

Also note that we don’t update @angular/bazel schematics and integration/bazel as 0.41.0 is not a recommended update for angular users yet due to the breaking changes in ts_devserver & web_package (now named pkg_web). When a suitable plain npm package that is in progress is finished then it will be possible to easily replace the html injection functionality removed from ts_devserver & pkg_web.

3f68377c3d ci: check versions of non-local integration project dependencies (#33968)
In order to keep integration tests on CI as determinitstic as possible,
we need to ensure that the same dependencies (including transitive ones)
are installed each time. One way to ensure that is using a lockfile
(such as `yarn.lock`) to pin the dependencies to exact versions. This
works as long as the lockfile itself is in-sync with the corresponding
`package.json`, which specifies the dependencies.

Ideally, we would run `yarn install` with the `--frozen-lockfile` option
to verify that the lockfile is in-sync with `package.json`, but we
cannot do that for integration projects, because we want to be able to
install the locally built Angular packages). Therefore, we must manually
esnure that the integration project lockfiles remain in-sync, which is
error-prone.

This commit introduces a helper script that performs some checks on each
project's (non-local) dependencies:
- Ensure that exact versions (not version ranges) are specified in
  `package.json`. This reduces the probability of installing a breaking
  version of a direct or transitive dependency, in case of an
  out-of-sync lockfile.
- Ensure that the lockfile is in-sync with `package.json` wrt these
  dependencies.

While these checks are not full-proof, they provide yet another line of
defense against indeterminism.

7eb3e3bce6 build: fix build scripts on macOS (#33854)
In #33823, `scripts/package-builds.sh` (which is used by both
`build-packages-dist.sh` and `build-ivy-npm-packages.sh`) was updated to
use `realpath`. It turns out that `realpath` does not exist on macOS, so
the build scripts do not work there.

In order to fix this (and also reduce the likelihood of introducing
similar issues in the future), this commit changes these bash scripts to
Node.js scripts (using [ShellJS](https://github.com/shelljs/shelljs) for
a cross-platform implementation of Unix shell commands where necessary).

7bf3e70553 build: update to terser 4.4.0 (#33835)
Now that terser_minified supports args as of nodejs rules 0.40.0, ng_rollup_bundle can updated to the pass —comments /a^/ to args can turn off all comments and maintain the current ng_rollup_bundle behavior with the latest version fo terser. //packages/core/test/bundling/todo:bundle.min.js size test passes with this fix.

Tho not strictly necessary to update terser, this will be a rough edge when someone does try it as it is not obvious why the //packages/core/test/bundling/todo:bundle.min.js size test fails. Updating now should save time in the future by not hitting this issue.\

This change also affect ng_package output as the default comments that are preserved by terser are now Comments with @preserve, @license, @cc_on as well as comments starting with /*! and /**! are now preserved by default.. (https://github.com/terser/terser/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md). Example ng_package golden file also updated as there are not some /*! comments preserved that were in older versions of terser.

1c22e464b2 build: remove deps on legacy nodejs rules rollup_bundle internals (#33201) (#33607)
The legacy nodejs rules rollup_bundle is now deprecated and will be removed in the nodejs rules 1.0 release due in mid-November. This PR brings in the rules_nodejs internal API deps that ng_rollup_bundle, ng_package and ls_rollup_bundle depend on into this repo to break the dependency. In the future these rules should switch to use the new rollup_bundle via a macro as done in https://github.com/angular/angular/pull/33329 but this is not possible right now due to the complication of having esm5 re-rooted ts_library dependencies.

The es6 sources now have .mjs extensions so they no longer need to be re-rooted to `{package}.es6`. This eliminates the need for the collect_es6_sources() function.

Note: repo has been updated to the newest working version of rollup which is 1.25.2. There is some regression in 1.26.0 which causes the following bundling failure:

```
7193e151d7 build: update to @bazel/bazel 1.0.0 (#33476)
66519de2dd build: fix gulp setup not working with node v12 (#33348)
It looks like the gulp setup does not work with NodeJS v12. This
is because we still use gulp for a few tasks, but gulp v3 is not
compatible with NodeJS v12. We had a similar issue for NodeJS v12,
but worked around it by updating the `natives` module version.
To actually solve this in a more future-proof way, without
updating or removing Gulp (for now), we just overwrite the
`graceful-fs` version. The latest version of `graceful-fs`
does no longer depend on the `natives` package and therefore
works properly with NodeJS >= v10.
* `collect_node_modules_aspect` renamed to `node_modules_aspect`
* new JS provider `JSNamedModuleInfo` now available and ng_module provides it using the `js_named_module_info` factory function
* sources_aspect has also been removed so the use of the `node_sources` legacy provider has been replaced with `JSNamedModuleInfo`.
this PR also brings in node toolchain support which was released in nodejs rules 0.33.0. this is a prerequisite for RBE for mac & windows users
bazel schematics also updated with the same. @bazel/bazel 0.28.1 npm package includes transitive dep on hide-bazel-files so we're able to remove an explicit dep on that as well.
b7a099d27e build(bazel): update to bazel 0.27.0 and fix compat in @angular/bazel package (#31325)
ctx.actions.declare_file now used in @angular/bazel ng_module rule as ctx.new_file is now deprecated. Fixes error:
```
        File "ng_module.bzl", line 272, in _expected_outs
                ctx.new_file(ctx.genfiles_dir, (ctx.label.name ..."))
Use ctx.actions.declare_file instead of ctx.new_file.
Use --incompatible_new_actions_api=false to temporarily disable this check.
```
This can be worked around with incompatible_new_actions_api flag but may as well fix it proper so downstream doesn't require this flag due to this code.
Also, depset() is no longer iterable by default without a flag. This required fixing in a few spots in @angular/bazel.
8503901746 build: downgrade gulp-clang-format to 1.0.23 (#31295)
The `gulp format*` tasks have been broken since 5eb742621. These include
the `gulp format:enforce` task, which is what runs on CI to enforce
consistent code style. Here is what (I believe) happened:
- I assume formatting was failing in 5eb742621 (moving `zone.js` into
  `angular/angular`). The reason must have been that
  [this glob pattern][1] matches `packages/zone.js/` (which is a
  directory) and passes it to `clang-format` claiming it is a file.
- I further assume that in an attempt to fix the issue,
  `gulp-clang-format` was updated to the latest version (1.0.27) in
  5eb742621.
- `gulp format:enforce` stopped complaining, so everyone thought
  formatting was fine and moved on.
- Formatting still wasn't fine, but the task completed successfully
  nevertheless 😱
- The reason is that angular/gulp-clang-format@55b697c5c (and subsequent
  commits) changed the way the `done()` callback was called, leaving it
  to `clang-format` to call it (while previously it was also called when
  the associated stream ended).
- In the old version of `clang-format` that we are using (1.0.41), there
  is a bug (which has been fixed in angular/clang-format@4cce2c4ee):
  The callback is not called
  [unless the process exits with an error][2].
One can also see that the `gulp format:enforce` task is not completed in
`gulp lint`. Example output from [build 374722][3]:
```
yarn gulp lint
...
Starting 'format:enforce'...
Starting 'validate-commit-messages'...
...
Finished 'validate-commit-messages' after 833 ms
Starting 'tools:build'...
Finished 'tools:build' after 1.75 s
Starting 'tslint'...
Finished 'tslint' after 19 s
Done in 21.82s.
```
Notice that all tasks have a corresponding "Finished X` log, except for
`format:enforce`.
For reference:
The problem was originally reported by @ocombe on Slack ([discussion][4]).
---
This commit fixes the issue by downgrading `gulp-clang-format` to
1.0.23. The linting failures due to formatting issues will be addressed
in subsequent commits.
ca591641c7 refactor(core): allow developers to select static-query migration strategy (#29876)
Currently there are two available migration strategies for the `static-query`
schematic. Both have benefits and negatives which depend on what the
developer prefers. Since we can't decide which migration strategy is the
best for a given project, the developer should be able to select a specific
strategy through a simple choice prompt.
In order to be able to use prompts in a migration schematic, we need to
take advantage of the "inquirer" package which is also used by the CLI
schematic prompts (schematic prompts are usually only statically defined
in the schema). Additionally the schematic needs to be made "async"
because with prompts the schematic can no longer execute synchronously
without implementing some logic that blocks the execution.
7e895b9179 build: fix web_worker playground examples using external resources (#28562)
The `web_workers/images` example is not being tested by any e2e
spec and therefore it's technically not necessary to fix that it uses
external resources, though in order to ensure that the Bazel builds
are hermetic and that we can eventually add e2e specs for the
web_worker/image example, we should avoid any use of external
resources.
We remove the `web-animations` polyfill in the `web_workers/animations`
example because we should try to vendor as few as possible deps. Also
the animations API is already supported by browsers we run the e2e tests
against (note here: `web_workers/animations` is currently also disabled)
6050cd0c1b ci: downgrade to sauce-connect v4.5.1 (#28659)
We currently face a lot of flakiness with our
Saucelabs CI jobs. These randomly exceed the 10min
CircleCI no-output limit because something throws
off `sauce-connect` in a long-lasting loop where
it tries to connect to some of their Saucelabs
servers. The initial assumption from the Saucelabs
team was that we might have some invalid firewall
rules, but this does not answer why this happens
_randomly_, so the latest update from the support
is that there have been some changes in the latest
version of `sauce-connect` version that **could**
cause this flakiness.
I've manually did multiple test runs and was only
able to reproduce the issues with v4.5.3 (latest
version), so it might be worth downgrading to
v4.5.1. This is also what the Saucelabs support
proposed us to do (though it's not guaranteed that
v4.5.1 is unaffected by the same issue)
44de68ce40 ci: do not install firebase-tools without cache (#28615)
Currently we install `firebase-tools` manually in the
integration tests run script. This is problematic
because it means that we cannot cache `firebase-tools`
properly and Yarn might time out downloading this
dependency. We can safely move this to the top level
`package.json` since Bazel now has a `.bazelignore` and
since we have a cache that works for PRs (with fallback
caching).
Note that the `.bazelignore` is relevant here because
`firebase-tools` has been mainly moved to the bash
script because it broke some Bazel calls.
8d11627e6c build: update yarn to v1.13.0 (#28546)
Currently our version of Yarn is installed through
the "circleci/node" docker image. This is problematic
because in order to be able to update Yarn, we always
need to update the docker image to a version that
comes with the desired Yarn version. Sometimes there
is no docker image with the desired latest Yarn version,
and therefore we cannot easily update the Yarn version.
Additionally updating the docker image also means that
we need to update our version of NodeJS, as well as the
version of `openssl` might have changed (meaning that
our encrypted credential files may not be decodable with
the new version of `openssl`)
e4fb93c28a build: switch playground examples to bazel (#28490)
Currently all playground examples are built with `tsc`
and served with the `gulp serve` task. In order to be able
to test these examples easily with Ivy, we now build and
serve the examples using Bazel. This allows us to expand our
with the overall Bazel migration. Building & serving individual
examples is now very easy and doesn't involve building everything
By default, `webdriver-manager update` will download the latest
Previously, we used to pin the ChromeDriver version on CI in
This commit fixes the issue by pinning ChromeDriver to a known
7033f39c61 fix(bazel): Bazel-workspace schematics should run in ScopedTree (#28349)
Users should be able to add Bazel workspace to an existing project.
The current approach assumes that the schematics is working on the same
tree as that of ng-new, which includes the top-level directory. Instead,
the schematic should work on the tree rooted at `appRoot` to enable
Bazel files to be added to existing project.
This change uses the newly implemented ScopedTree
a0ac4b0e3d
to achieve this.
NOTE: The version of `@angular-devkit/schematics` that is installed is
used to run the `@angular/bazel` schematic. Even if a different version
is used in the schematic itself, it has no effect.
Therefore, the *latest* Angular CLI should be used to generate the
files. As of this commit, the latest version is @angular/cli@7.3.0-rc.0
c1c87462fd build(bazel): Use local rollup & build-optimizer for ng_rollup_bundle (#28215)
The current build workflow depends on cross workspace dependency by
installing angular-cli as a Bazel repository. This is not ideal because
it introduces separate node_module directories other than the one
installed by Angular through the yarn_install rule (ngdeps).
This commit removes angular-cli from the Bazel workspace and installs
rollup and @angular-devkit/build-optimizer locally.
2afbcafab7 test(bazel): Use local_repository to load Angular (#28061)
The current integration test for Bazel schematics downloads a
published version of Angular as required by the http_archive
rule in the CLI created WORKSPACE.
However, this makes the test less useful because it does not
actually test any changes to the Angular repo at source.
This PR replaces the http_archive method in the WORSPACE
with local_repository so that any local changes to the Angular
repo are tested accordingly.
With Typescript 3.2, the file e2e/src/app.po.ts generated by CLI
no longer compiles under Bazel due to missing type annotations.
A temporary file is placed in the integration/bazel-schematics
directory while the change is pending in CLI repo.
04ca3bcf10 ci: move local and saucelabs unit tests to circle (#27937)
Moving the tests over to CircleCI in pretty much "as-is" state just so that we can drop the dependency on Travis.
In the followup changes we plan to migrate these tests to run on sauce under bazel. @gregmagolan is working on that.
I've previously verified that all the tests executed in legacy-unit-tests-local already under bazel.
Therefore the legacy-unit-tests-local job is strictly not necessary any more, but given how flaky legacy-unit-tests-saucelabs is,
it is good to have the -local job just so that we can quickly determine if any failure is a flake or legit issue
(the bazel version of these tests could theoretically run in a slightly different way and fail or not fail in a different way, so having -lcoal job is just an extra safety check).
This change was coauthored with @devversion
d766ad01db build: update gulp-clang-format dependency (#27712)
Currently rnning the gulp tasks to format code does not work because the `through2` version used by `gulp-clang-format` is very outdated and seems to cause exceptions like:
```
Error: no writecb in Transform class
    at afterTransform (C:\Users\Paul\projects\angular\node_modules\gulp-clang-format\node_modules\readable-stream\lib\_stream_transform.js:95:33)
    at TransformState.afterTransform (C:\Users\Paul\projects\angular\node_modules\gulp-clang-format\node_modules\readable-stream\lib\_stream_transform.js:79:12)
```
Updating to the latest version of `gulp-clang-format` that comes with 10cbb7f9bf, seems to fix this.
**Note**: This issue seems to depend on the platform because I didn't run into it on MacOS, or Linux. Though I got the failure on Windows. I didn't spend time investigating, but updating to the latest
version should just improve things.
00c110b055 build: upgrade jasmine (and related typings) to latest version (#19904)
With these changes, the types are a little stricter now and also not
compatible with Protractor's jasmine-like syntax. So, we have to also
use `@types/jasminewd2` for e2e tests (but not for non-e2e tests).
I also had to "augment" `@types/jasminewd2`, because the latest
typings from [DefinitelyTyped][1] do not reflect the fact that the
`jasminewd2` version (v2.1.0) currently used by Protractor supports
passing a `done` callback to a spec.
4f0cae0676 build: allow bazel build //... (#22168)
Also switch our CircleCI commands to just
bazel build //...
bazel test //...
as this is easier to understand.
Note, the reason this commit removes `firebase-tools` is:
1) firebase-tools has an optional dependency on
https://www.npmjs.com/package/@google-cloud/functions-emulator
2) yarn's `--ignore-optional` doesn't work for transitive deps, so
there's no way to yarn install without getting that functions-emulator
package
3) functions-emulator has a transitive dep on `grpc`
4) the version of `grpc` we get has `BUILD` files and no `WORKSPACE`
file so it always breaks `bazel build ...`
It could be solved by any of:
1) remove firebase-tools - this is what I did
2) fix yarn so you can omit optional deps of a transitive dep
3) make functions-emulator depend transitively on a more recent `grpc`
version
4) patch `grpc` after install by doing an `rm` command in our
postinstall or something
In its place we must install protobufjs. This is needed by the
ngc-wrapped test, which needs jasmine as well as bazel's worker mode
dependencies, and therefore cannot simply rely on
b43b164a61 feat(bazel): add an ng_package rule (#22221)
This produces a directory following the Angular Package layout spec.
Includes integration test coverage by making a minimal ng_package in integration/bazel.
Unit tests verify the content of the @angular/core and @angular/common packages.
This doesn't totally match our current output, but is good enough to unblock some
early adopters.
It re-uses logic from the rollup_bundle rule in rules_nodejs. It should also
eventually have the .pack and .publish secondary targets like npm_package rule.
2f2d5f35bd feat(platform-server): provide a DOM implementation on the server
Fixes #14638
Uses Domino - https://github.com/fgnass/domino and removes dependency on
Parse5.
The DOCUMENT and nativeElement were never typed earlier and were
different on the browser(DOM nodes) and the server(Parse5 nodes). With
this change, platform-server also exposes a DOCUMENT and nativeElement
that is closer to the client. If you were relying on nativeElement on
the server, you would have to change your code to use the DOM API now
instead of Parse5 AST API.
Removes the need to add services for each and every Document
manipulation like Title/Meta etc.
This does *not* provide a global variable 'document' or 'window' on the
server. You still have to inject DOCUMENT to get the document backing
the current platform server instance.
37797e2b4e feat(common): new HttpClient API
HttpClient is an evolution of the existing Angular HTTP API, which exists
alongside of it in a separate package, @angular/common/http. This structure
ensures that existing codebases can slowly migrate to the new API.
The new API improves significantly on the ergonomics and features of the legacy
API. A partial list of new features includes:
* Typed, synchronous response body access, including support for JSON body types
* JSON is an assumed default and no longer needs to be explicitly parsed
* Interceptors allow middleware logic to be inserted into the pipeline
* Immutable request/response objects
* Progress events for both request upload and response download
* Post-request verification & flush based testing framework
9559d3e949 feat(platform-server): support @angular/http from @angular/platform-server
This change installs HttpModule with ServerModule, and overrides bindings to
service Http requests made from the server with the 'xhr2' NPM package.
Outgoing requests are wrapped in a Zone macro-task, so they will be tracked
within the Angular zone and cause the isStable API to show 'false' until they
return. This is essential for Universal support of server-side HTTP.
5bccff0d7a fix(tsc-wrapped): use tsickle's new source map composition feature (#14150)
Tsickle transforms typescript code, which can change the location of code.
This can cause issues such as runtime stack traces reporting that errors
were raised on the incorrect line in the orginal source.  This change replaces
the DecoratorDownlevelCompilerHost and the TsickleCompilerHost with tsickle's
TsickleCompilerHost, which automatically composes tsickle's source maps with
typescript's source maps, so that line numbers are correctly reported at
runtime.
f386cb4ba9 Fix benchpress for newest protractor and selenium (#11451)
* chore: update protractor and selenium-webdriver packages
As `karma-jasmine` has a peer dependency on `jasmine-core@2.3`, but `jasmine` and `protractor` are using `jasmine-core@2.4` we need to add `jasmine-core@2.3` explicitly. Previously, the peer dependency was
satisfied by accident because npm deduped the dependency
for `jasmine-core@2.3` as top level dependency.
Note that the shrink-wrap files changes quite a bit because
of the deduping mechanism of npm.
* fix(benchpress): make it work with latest protractor and seleniuv-webdriver
8a5eb08672 fix(fakeAsync): have fakeAsync use Proxy zone. (#10797)
Closes #10503
It is possible for code in `beforeEach` to capture and fork a zone
(for example creating `NgZone` in `beforeEach`). Subsequently the code
in `it` may chose to do `fakeAsync`. The issue is that because the
code in `it` can use `NgZone` from the `beforeEach`. it effectively can
escape the `fakeAsync` zone. A solution is to run all of the test in
`ProxyZone` which allows a test to dynamically replace the rules at any
time. This allows the `beforeEach` to fork a zone, and then `it` to
retroactively became `fakeAsync` zone.
8490921fb3 feat(tests): manage asynchronous tests using zones
Instead of using injectAsync and returning a promise, use the `async` function
to wrap tests. This will run the test inside a zone which does not complete
the test until all asynchronous tasks have been completed.
`async` may be used with the `inject` function, or separately.
BREAKING CHANGE:
`injectAsync` is now deprecated. Instead, use the `async` function
to wrap any asynchronous tests.
Before:
```
it('should wait for returned promises', injectAsync([FancyService], (service) => {
  return service.getAsyncValue().then((value) => { expect(value).toEqual('async value'); });
}));

it('should wait for returned promises', injectAsync([], () => {
  return somePromise.then(() => { expect(true).toEqual(true); });
}));
```
After:
```
it('should wait for returned promises', async(inject([FancyService], (service) => {
  service.getAsyncValue().then((value) => { expect(value).toEqual('async value'); });
})));

// Note that if there is no injection, we no longer need `inject` OR `injectAsync`.
it('should wait for returned promises', async(() => {
  somePromise.then() => { expect(true).toEqual(true); });
}));
```
As of zone.js@0.6* we no longer require an es6-promise polyfill. The polyfill is only needed on browsers that don't
have native Promise support.
5a59e44765 chore(test): migrate Dart tests to package:test
Instead of running with karma and the karma-dart shim, run dart
tests directly using the new package:test runner. This migrates
away from package:unittest.
Fixes a couple tests, mostly associated with depending on absolute
URLs or editing the test providers after an injector had already
been created.
Remove karma-dart and associated files. Change gupfiles to run tests
via `pub run test` instead.
3d715a2f7b fix(typings): publish es6 typings rather than postinstall.
Despite local testing, multiple users failed to run the postinstall to install typings.
Instead, we can distribute the typings we installed locally.
This also reverts rxjs to beta.1 since we have errors using beta.2, being addressed
in #7001.
d86be245b8 fix(angular1-router): add support for using the component helper
In Angular 1.5 there is a new helper method for creating component directives.
See https://docs.angularjs.org/guide/component for more information about components.
These kind of directives only match the `E` element form and the previously component
router only created HTML that matched directives that matched the `A` attribute form.
This commit changes the `<ng-outlet>` directive so that it generates custom HTML
elements rather divs with custom attributes to trigger the relevant component to
appear in the DOM.
Going forward, Angular 1.5 users are encouraged to create their router components
using the following style:
```
myModule.componnet('component-name', {
  // component definition object
});
```
Closes angular/angular.js#13860
Closes #6076
Closes #5278
BREAKING CHANGE:
The component router now creates custom element HTML rather than custom attribute
HTML, in order to create a new component. So rather than
```html
<div custom-component></div>
```
it now creates
```html
<custom-component></custom-component>
```
If you defined you router components using the `directive()` helper and
specified the `restrict` properties such that element matching was not allowed,
e.g. `restrict: 'A'` then these components will no longer be instantiated
by the component router and the outlet will be empty.
The fix is to include `E` in the `restrict` property.
`restrict: 'EA'`
Note that this does not affect directives that did not specify the `restrict`
property as the default for this property is already `EA`.
c39f4c3b38 refactor(Observable): implement toPromise and fromPromise without side effects
BREAKING CHANGE:
toPromise is no longer an instance method of the `Observable` returned
by Angular, and fromPromise is no longer available as a static method.
The easiest way to account for this change in applications is to import
the auto-patching modules from rxjs, which will automatically add these
operators back to the Observable prototype.
```
import 'rxjs/add/operator/toPromise';
import 'rxjs/add/observable/fromPromise';
```
