The `RootContext` implementation contained a number of fields that were needed to support an experimental `renderComponent` function. The `renderComponent` function was removed, which allows us to cleanup the `RootContext` further.
The only field that remains on the `RootContext` is the list of bootstrapped components. This list is presumably mostly unused right now (it just contains the current component) and further refactoring can happen in a followup PR.
PR Close#46806
This commit removes the `Renderer3` experiment which attempted to use the
real DOM API as Angular's renderer. As shown in the diff, having this
experiment around added real code complexity to Angular that could not be
removed by an optimizer.
Since we no longer feel this experiment is worth continuing, we're removing
the `Renderer3` concept and all supporting code.
PR Close#46605
Due to the restrictions of circular dependency checking, we need a separate
internal interface for a renderer. We cannot use `Renderer2` as a type
internally as even importing it as a type incurs a dependency on its
implementation, which creates a major potential for circular dependencies.
Previously this role was served by the `Renderer3` type. As we prepare to
remove the `Renderer3` abstraction (the idea of using `document` as a
differently-shaped renderer), this commit renames `ProceduralRenderer3` to
the more generic term `Renderer`.
`RendererFactory3` is also renamed to the more generic `RendererFactory` for
consistency.
PR Close#46605
The `Renderer3` abstraction in Angular was an experimental code path in Ivy
which uses direct DOM operations instead of the former `Renderer2` path. To
allow `Renderer2` to tree-shake away, `Renderer3` is the default _unless_
`Renderer2` is provided. It was only an experiment, and never meant to be a
production code path.
However, it's possible for `Renderer3` to leak into user code. This commit
prevents that possibility by causing the `Renderer3` path to throw, unless
an explicit function has been called to enable it.
PR Close#46530
Makes the following improvements in the runtime:
* Uses the unique ID of the component definition to keep track of its injector in the `StandaloneFeature`, instead of the definition itself. This reduces the amount of memory we can leak, if something doesn't get cleaned up.
* Changes the naming and description of the `ComponentDef.id` to reflect what it is used for.

In some places, the [@see][1] JSDoc tag was incorrectly used instead of
the [@link][2] inline tag, leading to warnings during doc generation and
the `@see` tags being ignored (and thus shown in the docs as is).
Replace the `@see` tags with the intended `@link` tags.

We've had a TODO to expose ManualOnPush for a long time, but it hasn't moved since then. These changes remove it since it would be easy to re-introduce if we wanted to, it frees up an extra space in the flags bitmap and it removes some `render3` tests that we won't have to migrate to `TestBed`.
PR Close#45943
Adds support for TypeScript 4.7. Changes include:
* Bumping the TS version as well as some Bazel dependencies to include https://github.com/bazelbuild/rules_nodejs/pull/3420.
* Adding a backwards-compatibility layer for calls to `updateTypeParameterDeclaration`.
* Making `LView` generic in order to make it easier to type the context based on the usage. Currently the context can be 4 different types which coupled with stricter type checking would required a lot of extra casting all over `core`.
* Fixing a bunch of miscellaneous type errors.
* Removing assertions of `ReferenceEntry.isDefinition` in a few of the language service tests. The field isn't returned by TS anymore and we weren't using it for anything.
* Resolving in error in the language service that was caused by TS attempting to parse HTML files when we try to open them. Previous TS was silently setting them as `ScriptKind.Unknown` and ignoring the errors, but now it throws. I've worked around it by setting them as `ScriptKind.JSX`.

This commit implements the `StandaloneFeature` which provides for the
creation of standalone injectors, for those components which need them. The
feature-based implementation ensures the machinery for standalone injectors
is properly tree-shakable.
PR Close#45687
This commit refactors `importProvidersFrom` to support pulling providers
from the dependencies of a standalone component, in addition to NgModules.
Tests will be added in a future commit when standalone components can be
created without calling private APIs.
PR Close#45687
This commit adds a type field to .d.ts metadata for directives, components,
and pipes which carries a boolean literal indicating whether the given type
is standalone or not. For backwards compatibility, this flag defaults to
`false`.
Tests are added to validate that standalone types coming from .d.ts files
can be correctly imported into new standalone components.
PR Close#45672
Previously, the compiler would represent template dependencies of a
component in its component definition through separate fields (`directives`,
`pipes`).
This commit refactors the compiler/runtime interface to use a single field
(`dependencies`). The runtime component definition object still has separate
`directiveDefs` and `pipeDefs`, which are calculated from the `dependencies`
when the definition is evaluated.
This change is also reflected in partially compiled declarations. To ensure
compatibility with partially compiled code already on NPM, the linker
will still honor the old form of declaration (with separate fields).
PR Close#45672
This commit carries the `standalone` flag forward from a directive/pipe
into its generated directive/pipe definition, allowing the runtime to
recognize standalone entities.
PR Close#44973
Currently whenever we insert element we do it directly on the node using `appendChild` or `insertBefore`, however this doesn't work with `<template>` elements where the `template.content` has to be used.
These changes add a few checks to call `appendChild` and `insertBefore` on the `content` of the template.

Adds support for passing in an optional injector when creating an embedded view through `ViewContainerRef.createEmbeddedView` and `TemplateRef.createEmbeddedView`. The injector allows for the DI behavior to be customized within the specific template.
This is a second stab at the changes in #44666. The difference this time is that the new injector acts as a node injector, rather than a module injector.

Follow-up to #45051 where every `LView` that was being created was tracked in the `TRACKED_LVIEWS` map. This isn't necessary, because we only need to track the view that have been referenced by an `__ngContext__`.
PR Close#45172
These changes combine #41358 and #41894.
Currently we save a reference to an `LView` on most DOM nodes created by Angular either by saving the `LView` directly in the `__ngContext__` or by saving the `LContext` which has a reference to the `LView`. This can be a problem if the DOM node is retained in memory, because the `LView` has references to all of the child nodes of the view, as well as other internal data structures.
Previously we tried to resolve the issue by clearing the `__ngContext__` when a node is removed (see https://github.com/angular/angular/pull/36011), but we decided not to proceeed, because it can slow down destruction due to a megamorphic write.
These changes aim to address the issue while reducing the performance impact by assigning a unique ID when an `LView` is created and adding it to `__ngContext__`. All active views are tracked in a map where their unique ID is used as the key. We don't need to worry about leaks within that map, because `LView`s are an internal data structure and we have complete control over when they are created and destroyed.

Makes the following improvements to the listener instructions to make them slightly smaller and more memory-efficient.
1. Removes the default value from the `useCapture` parameter since it generates more code than just castint to `false`.
2. Removes the `useCapture` and `eventTargetResolver` parameters from `ɵɵsyntheticHostListener` since they won't be generated by the compiler, as far as I can tell.
3. Makes it so that we don't have to return a target name from a `GlobalTargetResolver`. This allows us to save on some memory, because we can return a reference to the target without having to wrap it in an object literal.
DEPRECATIONS:
`EventManagerPlugin.getGlobalEventTarget` is now deprecated and won't be called from Ivy code anymore. Global events will go through `addEventListener`.

Introduces an **internal**, **experimental** `profiler` function, which
the runtime invokes around user code, including before and after:
- Running the template function of a component
- Executing a lifecycle hook
- Evaluating an output handler
The `profiler` function invokes a callback set with the global
`ng.ɵsetProfiler`. This API is **private** and **experimental** and
could be removed or changed at any time.
This implementation is cheap and available in production. It's cheap
because the `profiler` function is simple, which allows the JiT compiler
to inline it in the callsites. It also doesn't add up much to the
production bundle.
To listen for profiler events:
```ts
ng.ɵsetProfiler((event, ...args) => {
// monitor user code execution
});
```

The `ɵɵInjectorDef` interface is internal and should not be published publicly
as part of libraries. This commit updates the compiler to render an opaque
type, `ɵɵInjectorDeclaration`, for this instead, which appears in the typings
for compiled libraries.
PR Close#41119
Th `ɵɵFactoryDef` type will appear in published libraries, via their typings
files, to describe what type dependencies a DI factory has. The parameters
on this type are used by tooling such as the Language Service to understand
the DI dependencies of the class being created by the factory.
This commit moves the type to the `public_definitions.ts` file alongside
the other types that have a similar role, and it renames it to `ɵɵFactoryDeclaration`
to align it with the other declaration types such as `ɵɵDirectiveDeclaration`
and so on.
PR Close#41119
These types are only used in the generated typings files to provide
information to the Angular compiler in order that it can compile code
in downstream libraries and applications.
This commit aliases these types to `unknown` to avoid exposing the
previous alias types such as `ɵɵDirectiveDef`, which are internal to
the compiler.

This commit refactors Ivy runtime code to move `readPatchedData` and `attachPatchedData` functions to a single
location for better maintainability and to make it easier to do further changes if needed. The `readPatchedLView`
function was also moved to the same location (since it's a layer on top of the `readPatchedData` function).
PR Close#41097

Previous implementation would fire changes `QueryList.changes.subscribe`
whenever the `QueryList` was recomputed. This resulted in artificially
high number of change notifications, as it is possible that recomputing
`QueryList` results in the same list. When the `QueryList` gets recomputed
is an implementation detail and it should not be the thing which determines
how often change event should fire.
This change introduces a new `emitDistinctChangesOnly` option for
`ContentChildren` and `ViewChildren`.
```
export class QueryCompWithStrictChangeEmitParent {
@ContentChildren('foo', {
// This option will become the default in the future
emitDistinctChangesOnly: true,
})
foos!: QueryList<any>;
}
